Playing with fire DM 19th March 2026 Sometimes a news story seems too good to be true, not regarding the veracity of what happened, but
Sometimes I wonder where I’ve been all my life. Today I stumbled on the recipe for an Easter lamb cake. I’d never heard of that before, but the blurb went: “Easter is a time for celebration, and what better way to mark the occasion than with a charming lamb cake? This adorable dessert has been a beloved tradition for generations, bringing smiles and sweet memories to families around the world. Imagine the delight on your loved ones’ faces when they see a fluffy, perfectly formed lamb cake gracing your Easter table.”
O dear! My Easter table has never been graced by a lamb cake. So now I’m full of remorse for depriving my kids, and regret for only making the discovery late in life, and shame for being so ignorant of global traditions. And what to do?! My kids are coming home for the Easter weekend. Shall I confess to them my ignorance? Shall I try and make a cake? O the pain of missed years and ill-spent ministry!
But I think I know. I’ll just do what I always do. Point them again to that perfectly formed Lamb who graced this world with his life, death and resurrection. And read to them again those precious words: “Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.” And at church on Easter Sunday, share with them again the bread and wine. And give them again that lovely advice: “If you keep following Jesus, nothing much can go wrong with you.”
