In that documentary, Who Do You Think You Are?, celebrities are invited to watch-on, and hold-on, as their ancestry is traced and the secrets of their past revealed. I’ve not watched a full episode, but only the promotional ads where the celebs express a range of emotions from horror to happiness in discovering who their great granny was, and what their great granddaddy did. It must be a special thing, to touch the past in such a personal way.
I wonder if someone might do something similar, but in terms of tracing one’s spiritual bloodline. In other words, tracing back the line of faith, from old Abraham, to reveal the names and stories of all those who passed on their faith, until it took up residence in your own heart. I know it’s not that simple, for there are many who contribute to sowing the Christian Faith into the heart of another, so that eventually when you believe, you’re not quite sure whom to thank.
It would also be nice to think that we might appear in the spiritual bloodline of others. I’m sure there will be some marvellous revelations at that last day, where it shall be shown that the names of some appear in the spiritual bloodlines of many. And may such ones get their due reward from God and thanks from others. Ultimately then, shall be fulfilled that lovely sentence from the mouth of our Saviour: “Here I am, and the children God has given me.”
